Glen Barnden: West Parry Sound Economic Development Officer

The Board of the CB&DC and the Steering Committee of the WPSEDC are pleased to announce that Mr. Glen Barnden has accepted the position of Regional Economic Development Officer. Mr. Barnden is replacing Dustin Turner who has moved on to become the Development Officer for the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines here in Parry Sound.

Glen will be building on the work of the WPSEDC (formerly known as WPS CiiNO project) which commenced in May of 2016. The project is a willing collaborative of 6 area municipalities, FedNor and the CB&DC aimed at increasing employment generating investment in our community.

Priorities and the overall work plan are provided by a Steering Committee comprised of senior staff representatives for the Archipelago, Carling, McDougall, Seguin, Town of Parry Sound, Whitestone and a representative from the CB&DC Board.  Glen will be working out of the CB&DC office located at 1A Church Street above Kawartha Credit Union with day to day supervision provided by CB&DC General Manager Bill Spinney.

Glen is no stranger to West Parry Sound. He was born in Parry Sound General Hospital and spent his early youth in Nobel climbing the rocks and shoals of Georgian Bay. He received his formal education in Toronto and graduated with a degree in Economics from Queens University in Kingston Ontario. Glen has an extensive resume having worked in both the private and public sector with large corporations, small business and all three levels of government. He strongly believes that ‘business brings business’ and that communicating and understanding the needs of all parties is the key to business growth and employment retention.

Steering Committee Chair Kevin McLlwain (CAO / Clerk Township of Carling) was quoted as saying “on behalf of all the funding partners, whose continued cooperation and support makes this project possible, I’d like to welcome Glen home and look forward to working with him to attract the private sector investment that will enhance employment opportunities throughout West Parry Sound”
